Joshua Launches a Southern Campaign

10:28 That day Joshua captured Makkedah and put the sword to it and its king. He annihilated everyone who lived in it; he left no survivors. He did to its king what he had done to the king of Jericho. ¹ 

Yosua 6:21

6:21 They annihilated with the sword everything that breathed in the city, ²  including men and women, young and old, as well as cattle, sheep, and donkeys.

Yosua 8:2

8:2 Do to Ai and its king what you did to Jericho ³  and its king, except you may plunder its goods and cattle. Set an ambush behind the city!”

Yosua 8:29

8:29 He hung the king of Ai on a tree, leaving him exposed until evening. ⁴  At sunset Joshua ordered that his corpse be taken down from the tree. ⁵  They threw it down at the entrance of the city gate and erected over it a large pile of stones (it remains to this very day). ⁶
